Cost reduction with voice over IP
Launched in 1998, TV3 is Ireland’s first independent commercial broadcaster. It operates the channels TV3, 3e and the online service TV3.ie. TV3 is eager to continue to expand its business, but in these lean times the broadcaster must do so in a cost-effective way.
The transition to Voice over IP (VoIP) from eircom was smooth. eircom engineers simply connected TV3’s existing IP-PABX to the eircom business IP network and the cost savings were soon apparent. With all its outbound call traffic now using eircom IP voice, the broadcaster is forecasting that it will realise a 30 percent reduction in its call costs.
“The potential for cost savings was the main driver behind our decision to adopt VoIP, with such a large volume of outgoing phone calls, any reduction would be a sizeable one.”
José de Freitas, Chief Engineer, TV3
